How is my understanding of PYP principles and practices evolving?
This Module I learned a lot more about the planning process. It was especially helpful to see a PYP planning guide.
In what ways can I apply learning from this workshop in my own learning and teaching?
I can use principles from IB to better my teaching methods, expand my teaching philosophies and specifically work towards wholistic and effective teaching approaches.
How are you using inquiry as a pedagogical approach that encourages students to be responsible for and actively involved in their own learning?
I have always prioritized inquiry to construct knowledge in my classroom. It is the most important tactic to keep students engaged. I use inquiry primarily to investigate a concept, a form of art, or a method of artmaking. This will lead them into their investigative projects. I continue to do inquiry-based learning through their material exploration and skill building.
How are you promoting agency by encouraging student choice and decision making?
I promote agency through student choice and decision making by allowing students to personalize their projects. The projects we complete in my class are never template-based, therefore all final projects look different. Students are actively making choices in their material choice, color, content and methods.
How are you encouraging your students to act in response to their learning?
I trust students use concepts and exploration in their making practices. They also make connections between my class and others. I encourage them by threading concepts and skills throughout lessons. I also scaffold skills within lessons so they grow in their understanding and ability of art.
What ideas could you bring to the collaborative planning process at your school?
I can help teachers integrate visual arts skills and making practices, including constructionism and makerspace techniques. I pride myself in the connection I push with social action and making.
